About the NMSIC
The New Mexico State Investment Council (NMSIC) is responsible for the prudent
investment and management of New Mexico’s multi-billion-dollar permanent endowment
funds. Our mission is to maximize returns for the benefit of current and future generations
of New Mexicans while maintaining transparency, integrity, and sound fiscal stewardship.
The NMSIC Internship Program provides an exceptional opportunity for students to gain
hands-on experience working with professionals in a dynamic, public-sector investment
environment.
Position Overview
The Investment Council Intern will work in-person at NMSIC’s Santa Fe office, assisting staff
with research, analysis, data management, and operational support. Interns will gain
valuable insight into institutional investing, portfolio management, and the operations of a
public investment fund. This position is ideal for students who are detail-oriented,
motivated to learn, and interested in pursuing a career in finance, investments, public
administration, or economics.
Key Responsibilities
• Assist with financial data collection, organization, and analysis.
• Conduct research on markets, asset classes, and economic trends.
• Support investment professionals with portfolio monitoring and reporting tasks.
• Review and organize investment documents, contracts, and meeting materials.
• Participate in internal meetings and special projects.
• Provide administrative and analytical support to staff as needed.
Qualifications
• Current enrollment in an accredited college or university (Undergraduate or Graduate
level).
• Major in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Business Administration, Political Science, or
a related field preferred.
• Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a professional office environment.
• Demonstrated interest in finance, government, or public service.
