Interprofessional Health Outreach Program

We are the Interprofessional Health Outreach Program (IHOP) at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine, and we are reaching out to share an exciting opportunity on April 28th , 2025 with undergraduate students who are interested in pursuing careers in various healthcare fields. This program is eligible for students from all undergraduate institutions across NM.

This is your chance to ask questions and gain a deeper understanding of your healthcare career options in a supportive and engaging environment.
Why Should You Join?
• Gain Insights: Learn directly from experienced student mentors in your field of interest, including Anesthesiologist Assistant, Athletic Training, College of Population Health, Dental Hygienist, Medical School, Nursing, Nutrition, Occupational Therapy, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, Physician Assistant, and Radiology program
• Ask Questions: Have the chance to ask student mentors about their career journeys, program expectations, and the application process.
• Personalized Guidance: Each session consists of small-group discussions with student mentors, so you’ll get answers tailored to your questions and career interests.
Program Details:
• When: April 28th from 5:00 PM – 6:00 PM (1-hour session).
o Anesthesiologist Assistant, Athletic Training, College of Population Health, Dental Hygienist, Medical School, Nursing, Nutrition, Occupational Therapy, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, Physician Assistant, and Radiology program
• Platform: Zoom. You’ll start in a general meeting, then be placed into breakout rooms by program area for more specific discussions with mentors.
• Commitment: Only one hour commitment for the session you sign up for. You’ll be meeting with student mentors representing the field you’re most interested in!
Session Structure:
1. General Meeting: All participants will meet briefly as a group to hear program introductions and overview.
2. Breakout Sessions: You’ll be assigned to a breakout room with student mentors from the field of interest you signed up to explore.
3. Interactive Discussions: Each student mentor will share their journey, provide insights into their program, and answer questions from students.
What IHOP Mentors Can Offer:
• General information about their healthcare program and career.
• Insight into the application process and what to expect as a student.
• Sharing of personal experiences and advice on navigating the healthcare field.
What IHOP Mentors CANNOT Do:
• Edit or revise application documents for mentees.
• Act as a referral or provide application recommendations.
• Share personal contact details, including personal emails or phone numbers (all questions should be directed to the IHOP team at UNMIHOP@salud.unm.edu).
• Provide one-on-one tutoring or academic assistance.
