JOB DESCRIPTION
Jefferson Natural Resources is a leading provider of forestry pre-sale services, including tree inventory, timber/thinning sale design and layout, GPS and GIS mapping services, tree marking, and management planning support to a variety of forest owners nationwide. The Inventory Technician position is a seasonal position for those students or recent graduates seeking a rewarding experience working in the forests of New Mexico. Specific duties will include the following:
• Daily travel to remote project sites in northern New Mexico.
• Installing inventory plots within the forest.
• Measuring trees and other environmental variables on the inventory plots.
• Entering data into hand-held PDR’s and editing data in the office on a daily basis.
• Turning in data once per week to the crew leader.
Those completing one acceptable season of work with Jefferson Natural Resources have the opportunity for advancement with associated pay increases in the subsequent seasons.
JOB CONDITIONS
• Work will be performed in a variety of field conditions from flat to steep, rugged terrain with a range of accessibility from near roads to hike-ins up to 2 miles.
• Should expect to work in a variety of weather conditions, including rainfall during the monsoon season.
• Transportation, tools, and training will be provided.
• Must be able to carry up to 25 pounds of gear during field work.
• Expect to camp on a weekly basis in a company-provided fully self-contained RV with generator.
• Expect to interact and report to a variety of clients as needed.
• Position will entail working at east 10 hours of overtime per week paid at time and half, plus paid lunch breaks and one-way travel to the project site.
• The ability to work independently after the training period will be offered after two weeks.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
• Experience is more important than education with preferred candidates having worked in a natural resource or engineering field in the recent past.
• Associate of Science (AS) degree preferred or Bachelor of Science degree acceptable.
• Good people and communication skills.
• Valid Driver’s License
SALARY
Starting pay is $20.75 per hour with prompt pay increases for acceptable performance and the ability to work independently.
